Single machines or a linked line

Stand-alone machines are easier to commission and let you keep existing stations. A linked line reduces operators and work-in-progress but needs the layout fixed before the machines are built. Most plants start a new product on stand-alone machines and link them once volume is stable.

What to put in the FAT

• Run on your own cores, commutators and wire, not the supplier's samples
• Agreed quantity at agreed takt with no manual intervention
• Measured quality figures (runout, resistance, hi-pot) on a sample from the run
• Changeover to a second model if you will run more than one

Questions to ask before signing

• Which PLC and servo brands are used, and are they serviceable in your country?
• Who installs, for how many days, and what does the customer provide on site?
• What is the spare parts list and stock policy for the first two years?
• Is remote support included, and how is it accessed?
